The Kalb Story
Built on Family, Grounded in Trust
Kalb Construction has always stood for more than what we build. Instead, it began with a father, a set of blueprints, and a belief that good work and honest relationships would pave the way.
In 1953, George F. Kalb moved his family from California to Southern Nevada, searching for opportunity and a better future. A skilled carpenter and World War II bomber pilot, George had once built film sets for Universal Studios before turning his craftsmanship toward homes, businesses, and community spaces that helped shape the growing Las Vegas Valley.
A decade later, in 1963, he founded George F. Kalb Construction and set the standard for what would become one of Nevada’s most trusted general contractors. His sons, Steve and George Jr., expanded the business in the decades that followed. Eventually, Steve took sole ownership and carried forward his father’s commitment to quality, relationships, and integrity.
Steve Kalb learned the business from the ground up, starting at age twelve sweeping floors and earning twenty-five cents an hour. By twenty-two, he had his first solo project: a Jack in the Box at Sandhill and Flamingo. His father handed him the plans and told him to make it happen. That same trust, accountability, and drive for results continue to define how Kalb operates today.
Over the years, Kalb has completed more than 4,000 projects across Nevada, from small tenant improvements to large-scale builds that helped shape Las Vegas. The company has worked on everything from gas stations and car dealerships to casinos, hotels, and community facilities. Landmark projects include expansions for the Golden Nugget Laughlin, the Mirage Dolphin Habitat, and 1.3 million square feet of development at McCarran Center. Kalb also built or renovated more than 200 7-Eleven stores and numerous auto dealerships across the valley.
For decades, Kalb’s reputation was built on trust and results. Many early projects were completed on a handshake. That integrity still drives how we do business today. Roughly 85 percent of our projects come from repeat clients, a reflection of long-term partnerships and consistent performance.
In 2018, Steve passed leadership to his son, Justin Kalb, who now serves as President, while Steve remains actively involved as CEO. A third-generation builder, Justin honors the company’s legacy while guiding it forward with modern tools, technology, and a clear vision for growth. Under his leadership, Kalb has expanded to Reno and Arizona, bringing the same level of quality and care to every project, regardless of location.
Today, Kalb Construction remains rooted in family, grounded in experience, and built on trust. Many of our employees have been with us for over fifteen years, which speaks to the culture of loyalty and pride behind our work. We take ownership of every project, treat our clients as partners, and continue to build spaces that move businesses and communities forward.
At Kalb, building is personal, and that belief has guided every project since the beginning.
